All 6 New Units
Shinobi God — Featured Vanguard
The headline unit for 12.5. Clearly inspired by Madara from Naruto, Shinobi God is a high-ceiling unit that rewards investment. Community consensus after a week of play: one of the biggest winners of the update, particularly in content that involves sustained multi-wave pressure. His kit scales well with the new Odyssey card system.
Might Guy
The other "biggest winner" according to early community testing. Might Guy has the most unique acquisition method of any unit in 12.5: you need to survive to Wave 100 in the new Spring mode, and he drops at a 20% chance. This is a deliberate design choice — he's designed as an endgame challenge reward, not a gacha pull.
Once obtained, his kit rewards the same kind of endurance that his acquisition method demands. Built for long-run content.
Kurumi
Described by the community as a strong hybrid unit with high damage output once you understand how to build around her. She requires optimization to reach her ceiling — players who treat her as a set-and-forget unit will underperform. Her strength is specifically in hybrid compositions where you need a unit that contributes both offense and support.
Fruit Eater
Inspired by Turles from Dragon Ball Z. Fruit Eater was described as "stronger than expected" after release — community testing found that once fully stacked, his damage becomes exceptional. He has a stacking mechanic that grows over the course of a wave, meaning he's strongest in longer runs and weaker in quick-clear content.
Alto
A strong addition with confirmed community approval. Specific placement in the meta relative to the other new units is still settling as of mid-May.
Sixth Unit
⚠️ Partially Confirmed: The name and kit details of the sixth new unit in 12.5 have not been definitively confirmed in the sources consulted for this article. Check the Anime Vanguards Wiki for the complete unit list.
Getting Might Guy: The Spring Event Grind
Might Guy is the only 12.5 unit with a dedicated acquisition challenge. To get him:
- Enter the new Spring Mode introduced with the Turning Tides event
- Survive through all waves to Wave 100
- Might Guy drops at a 20% chance upon completion
- Repeat until you pull him (average 5 completions, though variance applies)
Spring Mode is available during the Turning Tides event period. If you want Might Guy, don't wait. Check the event end date in-game and prioritize Wave 100 clears before it closes.
Recommended team for Spring Mode Wave 100: use your highest-DPS sustained units (Gujo Infinity from Update 12 remains strong here). The challenge is outlasting the wave timer — prioritize units that maintain output across extended runs over burst-damage picks.
Odyssey Mode — Complete Redesign Explained
The old Odyssey mode had a linear structure. 12.5 replaces it entirely with a roguelike progression system. The new version works like this:
- Runs progress room by room with branching path choices at each junction
- Room types include: Shops, Boss Rooms, and Elite Rooms
- You build your setup as you go — a card-based character progression system means each run has its own build arc
- Runs end when you lose, or when you complete the full run tree
This completely changes how you approach Odyssey. The old meta (bring a pre-built team, execute a fixed strategy) is replaced by a meta that rewards adaptability. The best Odyssey players going forward are the ones who can read what cards they're being offered and adjust their strategy mid-run.
Odyssey Tips for the New System
- Shop rooms are more valuable early than late. Early shops let you build toward a coherent strategy; late shops are catch-up. Route toward Shop rooms in the first half of your run.
- Boss Rooms scale harder than Elite Rooms. If your build isn't ready for a Boss encounter, route around it via an Elite Room first to pick up more cards.
- Cards that synergize with your specific units beat generic stat cards. Shinobi God, for example, has specific cards that interact with his kit. Prioritize those over flat attack speed boosts if you're running him.
Worldline Reset: What It Means for You
If you were previously deep into Worldline progression, you were reset on May 9. All Worldline progress cleared. This is the first full Worldline reset since the system launched.
The incentive for the reset: Time Goddess (Crazed) is now the reward for clearing Floor 50. She replaces the previous Floor 50 reward and is described as one of the strongest units currently in the game for Worldline content specifically.
The race to Floor 50 has restarted. If you're competitive about Worldline rankings, the first two weeks after a reset are when the top spots are most accessible — the field is even. If you haven't been competitive, this is the ideal moment to make a serious push.
Best Team Comps Post-12.5
Guild Land Conquest / Guild Wars
Gujo (Infinity) + Shinobi Sage (Friendship) remains the anchor combination established in Update 12. Shinobi God's AoE adds well to this composition — his zone pressure combines naturally with Gujo's freeze mechanics.
Odyssey Runs
The new Odyssey system favors flexible, card-synergistic units. Build around 1–2 core units and fill with cards that support them. Kurumi works particularly well here because her hybrid kit benefits from multiple card types.
Worldline Push (Floor 50)
Sustained DPS units over burst. Might Guy once obtained. Fruit Eater for its late-wave stacking damage. The goal is Wave 100 equivalent endurance, not clearing fast.
Standard Modes
The Update 12 meta (Gujo Infinity as anchor) still holds. Update 12.5 didn't fundamentally change standard mode meta — it added new powerful units but didn't negate existing top picks.
New Codes in Update 12.5
Four new codes were added with 12.5. Codes in Anime Vanguards typically reward Gems, rerolls, or free unit summons. Specific code names and rewards from 12.5:
⚠️ Exact code strings were not confirmed in sources available for this article. Check the Beebom codes list or the official Anime Vanguards Discord for the full list of currently active codes including the 12.5 drops.
Codes expire — redeem them as soon as possible. If Update 12.5 codes are still active when you're reading this, they're worth claiming regardless of whether you're planning a major session today.
FAQ
How long is the Turning Tides spring event?
The event end date was not confirmed in the sources reviewed for this article. Check the in-game event timer for the exact deadline — especially important if you're targeting Might Guy, since his acquisition is event-gated.
Do I need Might Guy for endgame content?
Not mandatory, but he's one of the strongest units for long-run content in the current patch. If you're pushing Worldline or high-wave Odyssey runs, he's worth grinding for during the event window.
Was Odyssey progress from before 12.5 lost?
The Odyssey mode itself was completely redesigned, so pre-12.5 progress in the old system doesn't carry over. The new system starts fresh for everyone.
What happened to the previous Floor 50 reward in Worldlines?
It was replaced by Time Goddess (Crazed) as part of the 12.5 update. Players who previously cleared Floor 50 were not automatically given Time Goddess — you need to complete Floor 50 in the new post-reset environment to earn her.
Is Fruit Eater good in Guild content?
Community testing suggests Fruit Eater is stronger in extended-run content (Worldline, long Odyssey runs) where his stacking mechanic has time to ramp. Guild Land Conquest can be fast enough that his stacking doesn't fully kick in. He's better in longer formats than in quick-clear guild scenarios.
