What I'd tell a friend starting Murder Mystery 2
From Brandon Sorensen's own playtime — not sourced from a wiki
- Habit: Keep track of the event shop timers during seasonal updates. Limited gear disappears, and it does not come back at the price you remember.
- Mistake to avoid: Trading purely off fixed value numbers is the classic beginner error. A high-demand item is worth more in practice than a dead one with a bigger number next to it.
- What guides miss: Re-check the trade window right as the final countdown ends. Last-second item swaps are the most common way newer players get caught, and almost no guide covers trade security at all.
Social Deduction Meets Action
"Who's the Murderer? Trust no one."
Three Roles, One Objective
Each round assigns players to one of three roles. Information is power — the Murderer's identity is hidden.
Murderer
Knife (melee + throwable)One equipped PowerThe hidden antagonist tasked with eliminating everyone using a knife
Abilities
Sheriff
Gun (reloads after every shot)The only armed defender — find and shoot the Murderer
Abilities
Innocent
No weapon (can recover the fallen Sheriff's gun)Unarmed survivors trying to outlast the round and expose the Murderer
Abilities
Murderer Powers (Perks)
Powers — still widely called perks — are Murderer-only abilities bought in the shop with Coins or Diamonds. Equip one per round.
Haste
MetaRun 10% faster while holding your knife out (3,000 Coins / 400 Diamonds)
Lets the Murderer outrun Innocents in a straight chase. Originally a 30% boost; nerfed to 10% around the May 2020 update, but still a go-to pick for aggressive play.
Sleight
MetaThrow the knife and regenerate it faster (1,000 Coins / 100 Diamonds)
Reduces the window of vulnerability after a missed throw — a favorite for knife-throw duels and 1v1 servers.
X-Ray
MetaSee through walls for 4 seconds (26s cooldown; 6,000 Coins / 800 Diamonds)
Counters hiding strategies on large maps like Research Facility — the priciest power tier alongside Ghost.
Footsteps
SituationalSee players' footsteps and their direction (free default power)
The default power every Murderer starts with. Useful for tracking campers hiding in obscure map spots; buffed in the March 2020 update and again during the Christmas 2025 event.
Ninja
SituationalMake no noise when stabbing someone (1,000 Coins / 100 Diamonds)
Removes the audio cue that alerts nearby players and the Sheriff to a kill.
Ghost
SituationalTurn invisible for 5 seconds (20s cooldown; 6,000 Coins / 800 Diamonds)
Used for ambushes at high-traffic choke points. The invisibility lasted 10 seconds before Season 1 nerfed it to 5.
Fake Gun
NicheCarry a fake gun for the entire round (30s cooldown; 3,000 Coins / 400 Diamonds)
Psychological warfare — pose as the Sheriff to make targets hesitate. Buffed during the Christmas 2025 event.
Trap
NichePlace up to 4 traps that freeze anyone who steps on them for 4 seconds (3,000 Coins / 400 Diamonds)
Area denial with a 0.5-second cooldown between placements. Added in the May 2020 update alongside Sprint.
Sprint
Situational50% speed boost for 5 seconds (27s cooldown; 3,000 Coins / 400 Diamonds)
Burst mobility added in the May 2020 update — closes gaps on isolated targets, and a visible trail follows you while it is active.
Decoy
SituationalPlace up to 3 decoy clones of your character that can block a shot (3,000 Coins / 400 Diamonds)
Added during the Thanksgiving 2025 event. A decoy vanishes if shot — but players can't collide with clones, which is the tell that gives them away.

Weapon Rarity Tiers
MM2's weapon economy revolves around rarity tiers. Higher tiers command higher trade value.
Knives
Every Murderer carries a knife — cosmetics change the look, never the stats
Guns
The Sheriff's weapon — one shot on the Murderer wins, but it reloads after every shot
Godly Knives
High-tier collectible knives from boxes, crafting, events, and gamepasses
Godly Guns
High-tier collectible guns; the classics come from Gun Boxes 1–3
Ancients
The tier above Godly — axes, scythes, hammers, crossbows, and snipers rather than normal knives and guns
Chromas
Color-shifting versions of godlies with extremely low unbox chances (or event/crafting sources)
Trading Economy
The community prices MM2 items with two main value lists: MM2Values, which measures weapons in Seers (the craftable benchmark Godly knife), and Supreme Values, which uses raw value units and has become the more widely used list as of 2025. Values move with demand, supply, and seasonal events. Since December 28, 2021, trading requires level 10+, each trade holds up to 4 unique item types, and a 6-second timer runs each time an item is added before you can accept.
Demand Tiers
Modern event Chromas sit at the top of the value charts — Chroma Traveler's Gun, Chroma Evergun, and Chroma Vampire's Gun are the standouts among tradeables. Nik's Scythe (dev-given, 7 confirmed owners) is effectively priceless.
Recent Ancients (Gingerscope, Traveler's Axe, Celestial) and top event Godlys like Traveler's Gun and Evergun. Trade-only with fixed supply.
Standard box Godlys and older event items. Values are modest and driven by demand and aesthetics more than rarity.
Legendaries and below trade in bulk; most matter as crafting salvage or set filler rather than individual value.
Common Scams to Avoid
Quick-swap
Re-check every slot after any change — the 6-second add timer exists for exactly this reason. Never rush.
Overpay bait
Check current values on Supreme Values or MM2Values before any significant trade.
"It's duped" haggling
Price against the public value lists, not a stranger's claims about your item.
Fake middleman
Only use middlemen with long, publicly verifiable reputations — or avoid cross-trade setups entirely.
The Duping Glitch (2017)
A trading glitch let players duplicate items by transferring them with alt accounts. Word spread in late 2017 and the market flooded — Corrupt was the main target, along with other valued items. Values crashed, many traders quit, and there was a period players call "the value drop year."
Resolution: Nikilis temporarily shut down trading to stop the glitch, dupers were banned, and community members helped collect duped items for deletion. Targeted items like Corrupt regained much of their value. Later incidents followed — the Icewing gamepass duping glitch (2018–2019) and another duping wave in 2022 — which is why classic Chromas, Icewing, and Batwing still trade below where their rarity suggests.
Crafting & Unboxing
The crafting station (opened from your inventory) has five recipes: random Uncommon, random Rare, random Legendary, the Seer, and the Random Painted Seer. Materials come from salvaging: destroying a weapon returns shards of its rarity (salvaging is permanent, and only "classic" weapons can be salvaged — code knives, ancients, event, vintage, and Season 1 weapons cannot).
Crafting Recipes
Random Uncommon Weapon
12 Common ShardsOne of five uncommon weapons (e.g. Donut, Checker, Night)
Random Rare Weapon
12 Uncommon ShardsOne of five rare weapons (e.g. Damp, Spitfire, Nether)
Random Legendary Weapon
12 Rare ShardsOne of five legendary weapons (e.g. Midnight, Sparkle, Emerald)
Seer (Godly)
20 Legendary ShardsThe Seer — the trading benchmark knife (requires salvaging at least 10 legendaries)
Random Painted Seer
10 Godly Shards + 10 Godly MetalsRed, Orange, Yellow, Blue, or Purple Seer — with a chance at the Chroma Seer
Salvage Rewards
Per-item unbox chances are shown on each box in-game; the wiki does not publish a universal odds table. Since Season 1, every box has an extremely low chance of dropping the chroma version of its godly. Ancients are never unboxed from standard boxes — they come from event Battle Pass purchases, limited gamepasses, or (for Nik's Scythe) Nikilis himself.

Game Modes & Meta
MM2 ships three official modes: Standard (classic roles), Disguises (NATO-alphabet names and lookalike avatars, no radios or pets), and Assassin (everyone has a knife and a target; powers disabled). There is no official tournament circuit — competitive play happens in community-run 1v1 and knife-duel servers, so treat any "official MM2 tournament" claim with skepticism.
Advanced Aiming Techniques
Flick Aiming
IntermediateKeep your crosshair neutral and snap to the target only at the moment you fire — hides who you are watching
Pre-Aiming
IntermediateHold your crosshair on the corner or doorway a chased player must exit before they appear
Strafe Dodging
AdvancedMove laterally and unpredictably while lining up your own shot — thrown knives travel in a straight line
Jump Throw
IntermediateAs Murderer, jump while throwing the knife to change its release height and stay harder to hit
Reload Discipline
EasyThe Sheriff gun reloads after every shot — fire only when the kill is certain, because a miss leaves you exposed
Meta Perk Loadouts
Murderer Meta
Sheriff Strategy
Round Rules
1. Before each round, players vote between three randomly selected maps
2. Roles are assigned with a shown Murderer-chance percentage: up to 10 Innocents, 1 Sheriff, 1 Murderer
3. Rounds end when time runs out, the Murderer dies, or the Murderer eliminates everyone
4. If the Sheriff dies, any Innocent can grab the gun — shooting the Murderer with it makes them the Hero
5. A Sheriff who shoots an Innocent dies along with them

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get good at MM2?
Learn the 12 active map layouts, practice knife throws and flick aiming (community 1v1 servers exist for this), and learn the role fundamentals: the Sheriff gun reloads after every shot, a thrown knife flies straight, and shooting an Innocent as Sheriff kills you both. On the trading side, learn values from Supreme Values or MM2Values before you trade.
Is MM2 pay-to-win?
Not in gameplay — every knife and gun performs identically, so rare weapons are purely cosmetic. Money mostly buys collection speed: Diamonds for boxes, weapon gamepasses, and the Elite gamepass (1.5x XP and a 50-coin cap instead of 40). Murderer Powers can be bought with earned Coins as well as Diamonds.
What are the best weapons in MM2?
Performance-wise, none — all weapons share the same stats. By trading value, modern event Chromas lead the tradeable market (Chroma Traveler's Gun, Chroma Evergun, Chroma Vampire's Gun), while Nik's Scythe — given personally by Nikilis, with only 7 confirmed owners — is effectively priceless.
How do I avoid getting scammed?
Check values on Supreme Values or MM2Values before trading, re-check the window every time an item changes (the 6-second add timer exists for that), and never rush. Trading requires level 10+, allows 4 unique item types per trade, and effects, emotes, and radios can never be traded — anyone claiming otherwise is setting up a scam.
What's the difference between Godly and Ancient weapons?
Ancient is the tier above Godly. Godlys come from boxes, crafting, events, and gamepasses; Ancients are never in standard boxes — they come from event Battle Pass finale purchases (like Celestial or Vampire's Axe), limited gamepasses (Batwing, Icewing), or directly from Nikilis (Nik's Scythe). Both are cosmetic only.
