Last Verified: October 10, 2026. Entity, hazard, shop and badge details come from the Doors Wiki (Fandom) pages for The Stairwell, Access Granted, Scanner, Charles and Achievements. Badge counts are from Roblox's public badge pages. The wiki lists the fire alarm countdown as both 12 and 15 seconds.

More players own the badge for escaping The Stairwell than the badge for entering it. On October 10, Going Up stood at 618,772 awards and Going Down at 562,865.

Paparazzi, Fried Mushrooms and Grindset all beat Going Down by a mile too, and you can only earn those inside the Stairwell. The entry badge just doesn't fire on every way in. Don't panic if yours is missing.

The Access Granted update on October 2 opened The Stairwell from the lobby, added Scrap and the Cobbler's shop, and added a new hazard, the Crusher. A secret scanner entity called Charles was added on October 10.

The wiki counts 102 rooms. The Cobbler sits at Landing 99, and you can loop the floor instead of leaving.

How to get into The Stairwell

  • From the lobby. Access Granted made the subfloor reachable straight from the lobby, with its own Pre-Run Shop. This is the fast way if you only want the Stairwell badges.
  • From The Mines. The main entrance is at Door 152, behind a skull lock. Smaller side-room entrances can also spawn anywhere after Jeff's Shop, and they can show up again even after you've cleared the Stairwell once that run. They look like a manhole cover with a skull lock on it.

The Mines route needs a Skeleton Key. It costs 300 gold at Jeff's Shop in The Hotel, which always stocks one, and has five uses. A skull lock eats four of them, but a key with fewer than four uses left still opens one.

Access Granted also added revives to "some subfloors". The changelog doesn't say which, so don't plan a run around one.

Creak: the one that actually ends runs

Creak breaks through the big metal door once you reach Landing 10, then stalks one player at a time for the rest of the floor.

Looking at Creak is the defence. Staring at it is how you die. It moves closer when you look away and backs off when you look at it. A few seconds of eye contact at low aggression sends it running several flights back.

Hold the stare too long, though, and its aggression climbs until it charges.

Its arms are the gauge. Hands up near its face means calm. The lower the hands, the angrier it is.

Three things kill you no matter what the gauge says:

  • Getting behind it. Going back down the stairs past Creak is instant death, even at low aggression.
  • Watching it spawn. If you're looking at the blast doors when it comes through, it kills you on the spot.
  • Ignoring the sneak attack. If you haven't looked at it in a while, it creeps up behind you and its left hand slides into view. Turn around immediately. Doing that also earns the Paparazzi badge.

Creak also shoves Crushers out of its way and can force Meld doors open, so a Meld wall is not a safe barrier between you and it.

Meld and the fire alarm

Meld is a meat-fungus wall over the landing gate, and you can't take the gate until it's gone.

The clean way: find the Fire Alarm (one always spawns in a landing that has Meld), pull it, and get into a Fire Escape room. The blast doors close after about 12 seconds. The wiki's room-mechanics section says 15, so don't count on the extra three. Then the sprinklers torch everything outside.

Once the Meld is burned, use Emergency Override on the terminal next to the gate.

The sprinklers do 10 damage per tick for 28 ticks, which is 280 damage. Outside a Fire Escape that's a death sentence. A YouTube short from Rizado shows one Starlight Bottle plus a full Bandage Pack tanking it, but that's a stunt, not a plan.

The alarm does more than clear Meld. It stuns Creak, destroys every TV (and the Noise attached to it), and turns Stems into Ceramic Stems you can grind for Scrap.

You can burn Meld open early with a lit Candle, Flare, Lighter or Lantern, but that enrages it. It won't hurt you, but its veins wrap around you and slow you down. Save that for when Creak or Hijack is already on you.

Noise and Hijack

Every TV in a Depot Room can spawn Noise when you walk into its line of sight. Each player gets their own copy, and it walks your exact path a few seconds behind you.

Stand still and it freezes. Touch it and you die, and every other player's Noise despawns with it.

Two ways to get rid of it:

  • Roll its TV down a flight of stairs.
  • Let the fire alarm burn it.

Disabling it earns the Rage Room badge.

In a group, have one person walk Noise away while someone else grabs the TV. Solo, loop a little so it's chasing your old path, then go for the set.

Hijack is the secret version. Go to Room S-050 in The Archives, open Ransom's laptop, click the S logo and eject the disc (CD-1). Carry it to the Stairwell and put it in Noise's TV.

Hijack doesn't freeze when you stop. It runs, pauses at random and changes speed. Bring a speed item. Once you've beaten the first one, Ransom can turn later Noise spawns into Hijack again if it catches you moving.

That's the REDACTED badge. At 168,614 owners, only Conga Line is rarer.

Stems

Opening a cubby can drop 1 to 4 Stems: clay balls with faces that roll at you for 5 damage a hit. Pick one up and throw it four times to pop it.

If you leave them alone, they stack into structures (towers, faces, little people) that are harmless unless you grab one.

Don't open cubbies unless you're hunting a Flare, a Garage Key or Scrap. They're where Stems come from.

If one does drop a Golden Stem, pop it: that pays 250 gold. The fire alarm won't turn a Golden Stem into ceramic, so popping it is the only payout.

The Crusher

New in Access Granted. A Depot Room wall shakes and plays a cue, then a spiked wall bursts through it.

After that it keeps going. Every so often you hear a machine whirr, and pistons drive it across into the opposite wall. Anything in between gets crushed, players and Shopping Carts included.

The whirr is your warning. When you hear it, get out of the lane. And don't park a loaded Shopping Cart in front of one.

Scrap, Depot Scrappers and the Cobbler's shop

  • Pick up salvage and grind it in a Depot Scrapper. One always spawns near a maze landing's entrance. Each disposable item gives 1 to 5 Scrap.
  • Burned Ceramic Stems give 1 Scrap per Stem, and bigger burned Stem structures give more.
  • Grinding a Starlight Vial, Bottle or Jug gives Stardust instead, which is the Dust To Dust badge.
  • Garage Doors can hold large items worth grinding, or a swarm of Stems. Garage Keys spawn in cubbies, and the Stairwell Pre-Run Shop sells them.

At Landing 99, pull the fire alarm the Cobbler points at, then talk to it. It trades 1 Scrap for 10 gold.

Starlight Jug75075

Buy the Starlight Jug first if you're carrying the run into the rest of The Mines. It has four uses and can be shared with three teammates. The wiki lists it as unobtainable after August 28, and the Cobbler has sold it since October 3.

The Storage Wars badge asks you to bargain 3,000+ gold out of the Cobbler. At 10 gold a Scrap, that's 300 Scrap in one visit, so plan a long grinding run.

The Scanner, its modules, and Charles

Buy the Scanner and the Cobbler lets you pick one module: Flashlight, Threat Detector or Translator. Modules also turn up in Stairwell cubbies. Threat Detector is the useful one. It highlights entities, including Stems, through the Scanner screen.

One warning. If you leave a floor with a module still installed, the Scanner loses that module's ability for good. Pull the module out before you exit. Reviving with a Lotus doesn't cost you the module.

Charles arrived on October 10. Trade any Stairwell module to Louie in The Mines and you get an EGG cartridge back. Install it and the Scanner turns into a three-lane egg-catching game: catch Eggs, dodge Rotten Eggs, three lives, three rounds.

Lose all three lives before round three and Charles bites your hand for 40 damage. Clear it and you unlock an endless mode with a high score.

Pulling the cartridge after a loss to dodge the bite doesn't work either. The game calls you "cheater" the next time you lose. It's a gimmick. Completionists will want it anyway for three new achievements: Charles Drowned, Pro Gamer and Cracked Gamer.

Grindset and Super-Size Me both arrived on October 2, so compare those two. There are about seven Grindset owners for every Super-Size Me owner. One grind is easy. Reaching Landing 99 alive with 750 gold or 75 Scrap is the actual run.

Conga Line is the rarest on the list. Three Noise following you at once means three instant-kill shadows on your path, and there's no known reliable setup yet.

Free Knobs and Stardust from the Access Granted terminal

Three codes came with the update. They're printed on the lobby-to-Stairwell terminal: PROTOCOL (20 Stardust), ACCESS GRANTED (150 Knobs) and ACCESS DENIED (150 Knobs). The full list is on our Doors codes page.

If you haven't done The Mines yet, our Mines guide covers the floor you'll be crossing to reach Door 152. The Doors hub has the rest.

FAQ

How do you get into The Stairwell in Doors?

Since the October 2, 2026 Access Granted update, you can enter it straight from the lobby. In a Mines run, it's behind a skull lock at Door 152, or a manhole-style side entrance after Jeff's Shop. The Mines entrances need a Skeleton Key, which costs 300 gold at Jeff's Shop in The Hotel.

How do you survive Creak?

Look at it briefly to scare it back, then look away before its aggression builds. Watch its arms: the lower the hands, the angrier it is. Never pass behind it, and turn around the moment its hand appears at the edge of your screen.

How do you get past Meld?

Pull the landing's fire alarm, get into a Fire Escape before the blast doors shut, then use Emergency Override on the gate terminal once the sprinklers stop. A lit Candle, Flare, Lighter or Lantern also forces it open, but it slows you down.

What is Scrap worth in Doors?

The Cobbler at Landing 99 trades 1 Scrap for 10 gold. A Starlight Jug costs 750 gold, or 75 Scrap.

How do you get the REDACTED badge?

Take the CD-1 disc from Ransom's laptop in Room S-050 of The Archives and insert it into Noise's TV in The Stairwell. That creates Hijack and awards the badge.

What is Charles in Doors?

Charles is a secret entity added on October 10, 2026. You get it by trading a Stairwell scanner module to Louie in The Mines. It turns the Scanner into an egg-catching minigame, and it bites you for 40 damage if you lose before round three.

How long is The Stairwell?

The wiki counts 102 rooms, with the Cobbler at Landing 99. You can also loop the floor instead of leaving, which is the Stair Master badge.
