Last Verified: September 28, 2026. Race, boat, rod and code data from the Official Fisch Wiki (fischipedia.org), the Version 2.03 changelog and Fisch's official X account. Nobody has confirmed how much XP each time trial pays yet, and the wiki still has no Boat Racing overview page.

The best boat in this update costs nothing and unlocks at Level 50.

The Lighthouse Skiff, Milo's time-trial prize at Moosewood, has a 190 S/ps top speed. That's the same as the Windsurfer Boast, which costs C$1,000,000 and needs Level 800.

It also turns better (100 steering against 65) and seats twice as many people. Go get it before you worry about the other four.

All 5 Races at a Glance

Version 2.03 went live on September 26, 2026 at 16:00 UTC. Five Race Leader NPCs now sit on five islands, each with a two-step quest: finish the course once, then beat a target time.

Milo stands by the docks at the Daily Shopkeeper's island, just off Moosewood. Flint is on the north side of Forsaken Shores near the Shipwright, Klaus is on an ice platform behind Snowcap, Ash is on the north side of Scoria Reach, and Talon is at the back of Ancient Isle near a Shipwright.

How a Race Leader Quest Works

Talk to any Race Leader and you get four options: race other players, practice alone, change your racing boat, or check the server leaderboard.

Practice is free. Racing other players costs C$100 a go. Both count for the quest, so there's no reason to pay while you're learning a track.

Your first finish pays the XP and title in the table above. The Race Leader then drops the time trial into your Quest Book whether you say yes or not.

The 2.03.1 patch on September 28 fixed two things that were messing with races:

  • The singleplayer timer now stops while the "Gameplay Paused" screen is up. Before this, that screen was eating your time.
  • Roaming fish are always hidden during a race now.

Ash pays 8,000 XP for a first finish at Scoria Reach, more than Talon's 5,000 at the same level gate. If you're Level 100 and only doing one race tonight for XP, it's that one.

The Five Race Boats Compared

All five accelerate at 0.2 S/ps², so what separates them is top speed, steering, seats and how big the boost is.

BoatTop speedBoostBoosted topSteeringSeats
Primal Airboat200+100300803
Lighthouse Skiff190+1002901004
Crag-Catamaran180+1002801002
Blacktide Sailboat180+752551003
Glacier Jetboat170+1002701002

Speeds are in studs per second. Seats include the driver.

Every race boat has a Boost Bar above the speed readout. Press Q on desktop, X on Xbox, Square on PlayStation, or the dedicated button on mobile.

The boost fades back to normal speed over time. The wiki has only timed it for the Primal Airboat: about 3 seconds to decay and 35 seconds to recharge. That's roughly one boost per straight, so save it for the longest one instead of firing it off the start line.

The Blacktide Sailboat is the odd one out. Its boost is only +75, so it tops out at 255, the lowest boosted speed of the five even though its base speed ties the Crag-Catamaran.

The Primal Airboat is the fastest thing here, but it's also the only race boat with 80 steering instead of 100. On a track with tight corners the Skiff is probably easier to drive clean. On an open-water haul the Airboat's extra 10 S/ps wins.

Race Boats vs Boats You Can Buy

This is why Boat Racing is worth your evening: the free boats line up surprisingly well against what the Shipwright sells for Coins.

JetskiC$50,00060180702
Luxury SpeedboatC$20,00050150544

A Level 50 player who finishes Milo's time trial ends up with a boat that matches the Windsurfer Boast's top speed and beats the Jetski by 10 S/ps. The Luxury Speedboat, the usual Level 50 buy, is 40 S/ps slower.

The Primal Airboat lands within 10 S/ps of the C$5 million Airboat at a tenth of the level requirement, and its boost takes it to 300.

The catch is acceleration. The race boats sit at 0.2, while the Jetski is 0.3, the Windsurfer 0.65 and the Airboat 0.75. They take longer to get up to speed, which matters if you stop at every island.

Robux boats are in another tier. KR ROAR, the new R$1,899 limited, has a 310 top speed and 1.25 acceleration. If you already own one of those, the race boats are cosmetic for you.

Which Race to Do First

  1. Milo at Moosewood (Level 50). It's the lowest gate and the most generous target time at 2:10, and the Skiff is the boat most players will keep using.
  2. Talon at Ancient Isle (Level 100). The Primal Airboat is the fastest prize, and 1:40 is a comfortable target.
  3. Ash at Scoria Reach (Level 100). The best first-finish XP of the five. The 1:00 target is the tightest, so run practice laps before you commit.
  4. Flint and Klaus (Level 75). Do them for the titles and the collection. Neither boat beats the Skiff.

Below Level 50 you can't start any of the five, so go level up and check the Fisch hub for the rest of our guides.

The Rod Changes in 2.03

The Cinderstring rework is the longest entry in the patch notes, but the wiki marks the Cinderstring as unobtainable. If you don't already own it, none of this touches you.

If you do own it, Infernal Melody got a big upgrade:

  • Tier 1 now lasts 60 seconds (was 30), gives +35% luck (was +10%) and a 60% Scorched chance (was 50%), and adds a 15% Emberflame chance.
  • Tier 2 extra luck goes from +25% to +50%, Infernal chance from 15% to 20%, Scorched from 20% to 60%, and it adds a 20% Emberflame chance.
  • Base stats went up too: lure 95% to 100%, resilience 70% to 80%, progress speed 10% to 30%.

The Infernal mutation went from 7x to 10x. Infernal Melody is its only listed source, so this is also a Cinderstring-owner buff.

The Ascended mutation went from 9.9x to 12x, and that one matters more. The Masterline Rod rolls it 30% of the time.

The same patch also capped the Masterline's weight multiplier at 2.25x, so it's a buff with a catch. If you chase heavy fish with it, check your sell prices before you assume a raise.

The Wind Elemental got the broadest buff. Omni-Elemental Mode's four mutation chances go from 15% to 20%, progress speed from 25% to 55%, and it gains +25% luck. Base Mode gets +45% luck. The Earth, Fire and Water modes each gain +25% progress speed and +20% on their mutation in their own weather.

The gauntlet changes are smaller. Abyssal Gauntlets' universal mutation rate doubles from +5% to +10%, and Calm Gauntlets gain +25% luck. The Fisch rods database has all of them side by side if you want to compare.

Codes Check

VroomVroom expired on September 27 at 16:00 UTC. It was the Boat Racing launch code, and the Pancaked Flimsy Rod skin was its reward.

Three codes still work: SCARLET (until December 15), TemporarySubmarine (until October 18) and CARBON (no end date). Our Fisch codes page has the full list.

If you're coming back after a break, last week's Mariana's Awakening guide covers the Obsidian Trench, which 2.03 left alone apart from a progression bug fix.
