The Chasm-Stalker costs C$5,000,000, but that's the cheap part.

It only unlocks once you complete the Obsidian Trench bestiary, and that bestiary includes an Apex that only bites at night and an Exotic that only exists during a hunt.

If you never bought the five Mariana's Veil rods, the quest that opens the trench asks for all of them first, which is another C$5.1 million before you even see the place.

Mariana's Awakening (Version 2.02) went live on September 19, 2026 at 16:20 UTC. Here's the full unlock path, every new fish with its bait and conditions, and which of the six new gauntlets is actually worth wearing.

The Short Version

New area: the Obsidian Trench, the final layer of Mariana's Veil, below the Veil of the Forsaken.
How to get in: finish Vaelor's four-part questline. He stands under the lighthouse at Roslit Bay.
New rod: Chasm-Stalker, C$5,000,000, sold in the trench after you complete its bestiary.
New mutation: Myriapodic, a 10x sell-value multiplier, only from the Chasm-Stalker.
New event: the Skolopendra Hunt, a localized hunt inside the trench.
22 new fish: 12 in the trench, plus 10 quest fish spread across the older Mariana's Veil layers.
6 gauntlets: five Mythical ones from the layer NPCs, and the Exotic Mariana's Gauntlets from Vaelor.
Deadline: the Time Cannot be Stopped bundle (799 Robux) leaves the shop on September 26.

The Vaelor Quest Chain, Step by Step

Vaelor is at Roslit Bay, under the lighthouse. The chain has four quests, and they must be done in order.

1. Chart the Veil

Discover every layer of Mariana's Veil, then return to Vaelor. If you have already been all the way down to the Veil of the Forsaken, this completes the moment you talk to him.

2. Worthy of the Abyss

Five new NPCs, one per layer, each want specific catches made with that layer's own rod. Each pays 25,000 XP and a Mythical gauntlet.

The mutation each NPC asks for is the one that layer's rod rolls on its own: Volcanic Rod gives Ashen Fortune 30% of the time, Challenger's Rod gives Chilled at 35%, Rod Of The Zenith gives Wrath at 70%, Ethereal Prism Rod gives Prismize at 50%.

So the Tenebris quest is the quick one and the Ignis quest is the slow one.

Resonus is the hidden grind. No mutation needed, but it wants ten Perfect Catches, and both fish are night fish that prefer fog.

3. Into the Void

Perfect Catch a Scylla, then jump into the void. You land in the crevice below, the Obsidian Pocket. Scylla is a Secret fish from Scylla Hunts in the Veil of the Forsaken, so this step waits on a hunt.

4. The Obsidian Threshold

The Obsidian Pocket has a hatch and a riddle. Your riddle is unique to you, and each one points to a Scylla carrying one specific mutation. Hold that Scylla out at the gate and it opens.

Read the riddle before the next Scylla Hunt and equip the matching rod. Landing a Scylla with the wrong rod means waiting for another hunt. Finishing the chain rewards the Exotic Mariana's Gauntlets and opens the trench.

The Real Bill: Rods You Need First

Every Worthy of the Abyss quest demands a specific rod, and the riddle needs one of four of them again. If you rushed Mariana's Veil the first time with a single all-rounder, here is what you owe:

Level 250 is the real wall. The Ethereal Prism Rod is the only way to finish Luminis, and Luminis is required. Below 250, you can't open the Obsidian Trench at all, however much money you have.

Inside the Trench: Suppression and the Crystals

The moment you enter, you get Suppression, a status effect that significantly lowers the stats of every fishing rod. The fix is the glowing crystals around the zone. Absorbing one weakens Suppression for 30 seconds.

Thirty seconds isn't long. Before you cast at a big target, stand near a crystal so you can refresh without swimming across the trench mid-session.

Two Magic Mirrors take you back up to the Veil of the Forsaken: one in the Obsidian Pocket and one in the trench itself. You don't need to swim the whole way out.

The Skolopendra Hunt

Skolopendra is the Exotic centipede titan that the whole update is named around. It only appears during a Skolopendra Hunt and wants Kraken Tentacle bait in rain or fog.

How the hunt starts is still thin. Community guides report roughly four to six Veiled Charybdis catches, after which the trench crystals turn deep red. The wiki hasn't published this yet, and nobody has published a hunt duration.

All 22 New Fish

Night matters more than anything else in this table. Fishing outside a fish's preferred time cuts its spawn rate by 90%. Season is only a 25% bonus or a 15% penalty, and seasons last about 9.6 hours. A full day-night cycle is about 25 minutes, so a night fish is at most a 12-minute wait.

Completing this bestiary pays out the Obsidian Chunk bobber, C$30,000 and 30,000 XP, and unlocks the Chasm-Stalker.

Stock Stag Beetles before you go down. Meteor bait is Limited and comes from the Meteorologist, while Stag Beetles can be caught on trees in the Lost Jungle, Toxic Grove or Living Garden. Veiled Charybdis has a listed base chance of 0.02, the lowest in the trench by a distance, so you'll burn a lot of bait on it.

The Glacius quest is the awkward one. It needs three Legendary Hoarfrost Halibut, all Chilled, all during the day, and a Glacial Gulper at night. Plan to do the Halibut in the day half of the cycle and switch to the other layers when night comes, rather than sitting in Challenger's Deep for both.

Chasm-Stalker: Is It Worth the Grind?

For money, yes. Stats per the wiki: 135 Lure, 278 Luck, 0.3 Control, 80 Resilience, infinite max weight, 200 Durability. That durability means it can fish any liquid.

The ability is where it earns the price:

35% chance of Myriapodic, a 10x sell-value mutation, rising by 8% per Perfect Catch streak to a maximum of 75%.
25% chance of the Obsidian mutation.
Every Perfect Catch in the streak adds 1.06x final weight, capped at 1.30x.
A whirlpool shows up in the reeling bar every 4 seconds at a 50% chance, pulling the fish and adding forced progress.

The catch is the streak. Failing a perfect catch cuts it by 15%. Snapping the line resets it to zero. If you don't reliably hit perfects, you're fishing a 35% Myriapodic rod, not a 75% one, and the weight bonus never stacks.

The Six Gauntlets, Ranked by Use

Mariana's Gauntlets aren't strictly the best ones. They carry every layer gauntlet's effect, but each at half strength.

For general money fishing, Abyssal is the one to wear. The mutation reveal lets you see what you hooked before you fight it, and 5% universal mutation chance applies to every cast.

Swap to Veiled for hunt fish like Skolopendra and Scylla, where doubling Mariana's forced-progress conversion actually changes the fight. Mariana's Gauntlets is the pick if you don't want to swap at all.

Codes Check

The launch code MarianaIsGoingCrazy (Level 25+) gave the Him companion, C$1,000, bait and a random item. It expired September 20 at 16:00 UTC, one day after the update.
