Fisch dropped Version 1.91 — Drylands on Friday, July 4, 2026 at 16:00 UTC. It's a full new biome pinned to the Fischfest 2 island next to the Heart of the Island, and it's the first patch since the Crews update in June to add a completely new fishing mechanic. If you logged in over the July 4 weekend and got sand-blasted the moment you stepped off the Sunken Reservoir bridge, this is the full walkthrough — how Sand Sifting actually works, where the Terrosunder hunts, what the Photic secret is worth, and which of the two codes gets the better payout.
TL;DR — What Shipped in Version 1.91
- Released: Friday, July 4, 2026, at 16:00 UTC. Five minor bug-fix subversions (1.91.0.1 through 1.91.0.5) landed across July 4–6.
- New biome: the Drylands, next to Heart of the Island on the Fischfest 2 island, with four sub-locations — The Claypans, Drylands Sand, Dunehaven, and the Sunken Reservoir.
- New mechanic: Sand Sifting, unlocked by combining the Marrow Rod with the Sand Sifter bobber, or by applying the new Dune enchantment to any rod.
- New rods: three — the crafted Marrow Rod, the Terrotrapper, and the July 4-flavoured Liberty-Line.
- New localized events: Dust Storm (2x luck, screen dust, slow HP loss) and Torrential Rain (rare Rain/Stormy variant that floods the Claypans).
- New bestiary: Patriotic Seas, plus the Drylands bestiary carrying a Small Cactus Bobber as its completion reward.
- New enemy: the Terrosunder, a burrowing predator that can only be caught during a Dust Storm-triggered Terrosunder Hunt — and its Secret-rarity variant, the Photic Terrosunder.
- New companion: the Terroscuttler.
- Codes live:
DrylandsIsFireandHappy4th, both listed under 1.91's New Codes block. - Balance: heavy companion touch-up (Beak Bill, Penguin Pal, Silly Seal all buffed) plus rod tuning to Wingkeeper, Igneous Rupturer, Fabulous Rod, Crew Rod, and Acidgrinder.
Where the Drylands Is On the Map
The Drylands sits directly next to the Heart of the Island on the Fischfest 2 island. That's the same island you've been visiting for the Underground Music Venue and Wrath of Olympus content — not a separate travel unlock. Walk out from the Heart of the Island interior toward the outer coast and the biome opens up as sand dunes, dry claypans, and a small merchant village.
The biome breaks into four named sub-locations on the wiki:
- The Claypans — dry basins that only become fishable during Torrential Rain.
- Drylands Sand — the sweeping dune fields where Sand Sifting is used.
- Dunehaven — a small village hub with NPCs and the Dunehaven Merchant.
- Sunken Reservoir — a standing pool that doubles as the Photic Terrosunder summon spot.
Sand Sifting — Both Unlock Paths
Sand Sifting is the patch's headline mechanic. It lets you cast into dry sand instead of water. Per the Drylands wiki page, there are exactly two ways to unlock it:
- Marrow Rod + Sand Sifter bobber. The Marrow Rod is a crafted rod (Mysterious Skull is one of the ingredients — see the Dunehaven Merchant section below), and the Sand Sifter is a bobber earned through a Drylands quest.
- Dune enchantment on any rod. The Dune enchantment is one of two new enchantments added this patch (the other is the Sifting Affix). It's the flexibility option if you don't want to swap off your main rod — slot Dune, keep your existing rod stats, and you can sand-fish.
Practical read: the Marrow path is the completionist path (you want the Sand Sifter bobber unlocked anyway for the Bestiary badge), while the Dune enchantment path is the shortcut for players who already have a maxed rod they don't want to abandon.
Dust Storm & the 2x Luck Window
The Dust Storm is a Drylands-only Localized Event and the single most valuable weather window in the biome. Two things happen when it fires:
- Luck is doubled (2x). Every cast during the storm rolls on the boosted luck table.
- Screen dust and slow HP drain. Both are mitigable — Dune Goggles clean up the visibility, and Dunehaven Wraps reduce the HP tick.
Even if you skip the mitigation gear, the 2x luck window is worth pushing through unless you're one hit from dying. Front-load your best bait and casts during a storm; do menu chores between storms.
Terrosunder Hunt Rules
The Terrosunder Hunt automatically activates every Dust Storm. During a hunt, the Terrosunder is visible scuttling across the sand and changes direction constantly. Three rules matter, all sourced to the Drylands wiki page:
- You must fish near the moving Terrosunder to have a chance to catch it. Standing still and casting into random dunes will not spawn it — you're tracking a target.
- Getting too close is an instant kill. The wiki phrases it plainly: "Getting too close will result in instant death." Aim for reel range, not melee range.
- You need Sand Sifting active. Either the Marrow Rod + Sand Sifter combo or the Dune enchantment. No sand-fishing setup, no Terrosunder catch.
The hunt lasts until the Dust Storm ends, but a successful catch ends the storm early automatically. Practical implication: if you're farming other Dust Storm loot, don't catch the Terrosunder first — do it as the storm's closing act.
Photic Terrosunder — Secret Summon
The Photic Terrosunder is the Drylands' Secret rarity variant and this patch's chase fish. It's not a random spawn — you summon it, and the summon has hard requirements:
- Trigger a Dust Storm and start a normal Terrosunder Hunt.
- During the hunt, toss an Awakening Serum (new patch item) into the Sunken Reservoir.
- The regular Terrosunder charges into the pool and transforms into a Photic Terrosunder. It hovers above the water in one corner of the reservoir.
- The Photic Terrosunder Hunt lasts 5 minutes or ends early on a successful catch.
Note that the summon consumes both an active Dust Storm and an Awakening Serum — failing the catch inside the 5-minute window means eating both costs. Have your best sand-fishing loadout equipped before you toss the serum.
Torrential Rain & the Claypans Exclusives
Torrential Rain is a rare Localized Event that has "a small chance of happening during Rain or Stormy" (Drylands wiki phrasing). When it fires, the Claypans flood and become fishable. Four fish are exclusive to that flooded window and cannot be caught any other way:
- Dryskin Minnow
- Cactus-Feeder Barb
- Claypan Guppy
- Sun-Blistered Perch
If you're chasing the Drylands Bestiary badge for the Small Cactus Bobber, you cannot finish it without at least one Torrential Rain window. Set up in the Claypans area at the first sign of Rain or Stormy weather and don't leave until it either upgrades to Torrential Rain or the weather clears.
Dunehaven Merchant Prices
Dunehaven has an in-village merchant with three stocked items. Prices are quoted from the wiki:
| Item | Cost | What It's For |
|---|---|---|
| Unrefined Magnetite Core | C$ 15,000 | Quest ingredient for Paleontologist Petri. |
| Dunehaven Wraps | C$ 40,000 | Reduces Dust Storm HP damage. |
| Mysterious Skull | C$ 150,000 | Marrow Rod crafting ingredient. |
Dunehaven Wraps at 40k C$ is the highest-value single purchase for anyone planning to grind Dust Storms. Mysterious Skull is only worth spending on if you're committing to the Marrow Rod craft path (you'll also collect Mysterious Spine and Mysterious Fang from other Drylands loot loops).
New Rods — Marrow, Terrotrapper, Liberty-Line
Three rods shipped with 1.91. From the patch notes' "New Content" block:
- Marrow Rod — the crafted Sand Sifting anchor rod. Uses Mysterious Skull (Dunehaven Merchant, 150k C$) plus other Dunehaven-sourced ingredients.
- Terrotrapper — a Terrosunder-themed rod. Detailed stats haven't propagated to the Drylands wiki page yet as of July 8 — treat any DPS/stat claim you see elsewhere as unverified until it lands on Fischipedia's Terrotrapper article.
- Liberty-Line — the July 4-flavoured event rod, paired with the Liberty mutation (also new) and the "Patriotic Seas" bestiary.
Two new mutations, Marrow and Terro, key off Drylands catches. A fifth new mutation, Photical, ties to the Photic Terrosunder summon route.
Terroscuttler Companion
The Terroscuttler is the new patch companion. Subversion 1.91.0.3 explicitly notes that the Terroscuttler's description was added post-launch, so its perk block is confirmed live but hasn't been fully catalogued on the wiki yet. Grab it if you have the resources; wait on stat-scaling claims from third-party guides until Fischipedia lists them.
Companion & Rod Balance Changes
The 1.91 patch notes carry an unusually deep Balance Changes block. The headline numbers, quoted directly from the patch notes:
Companion Buffs
- Beak Bill: Rain multiplier 1.5x → 2x. Max-level trigger interval 22.5s → 20s. Bait return chance 20% → 25% (max level: 40% → 50%). Swoop chance 25% → 35% (max level: 50% → 65%).
- Penguin Pal: Freeze attempt interval 5s → 4s. Freeze chance 10% → 15% (max level: 14% → 20%). Freeze duration 3s → 4s (max level: 5s → 6s).
- Silly Seal: Max hunger 100 → 120. Bite progress gain 6% → 8%. Minimum bite interval 2s → 1.5s. Maximum bite interval 4s → 3s.
Rod Tuning
- Wingkeeper: doubled bar tracking speed. Sanctified mutation chance 20% → 35%. Veilfallen mutation chance 15% → 50% (a huge jump — anyone holding Wingkeeper from the May Venue Takeover event should re-evaluate it as a main rod).
- Igneous Rupturer: Disturbance +5 → +7. Progress Speed +5% → +20%. Igneous mutation chance 30% → 50%.
- Fabulous Rod: Fabulous mutation chance 26% → 49%.
- Crew Rod: Luck 100% → 250%. Resilience 20% → 55%. Mastery 5-Star Review requirement halved (5,000 → 2,500), and now tracks independently of seasonal rating.
- Acidgrinder: +3 Disturbance and +15 Hunt Focus for Brine Storm.
The Crew Rod change alone is meaningful: if you unlocked it during the June Crews update and shelved it because the base luck felt underwhelming, 250% Luck plus 55% Resilience makes it a real contender for Secret hunts again.
Active Codes (July 8, 2026)
Only two codes shipped with 1.91 — both from the "New Content" list in the patch notes:
| Code | Notes |
|---|---|
DrylandsIsFire | Standing Drylands-launch code. Redeem before the next major patch. |
Happy4th | July 4 event code. One of the patch's new code-locked skins — MERICAAA, for the new Random Rod mastery — is confirmed unlocked via a code, though the wiki doesn't specify which of the two is the vehicle. Redeem both to lock the skin down. |
Redeem both from the pause menu Codes tab. Our live rotating list stays current on the Fisch Codes hub.
Launch-Week Priority List
- Redeem
DrylandsIsFireandHappy4thimmediately. Neither has a confirmed expiry, but both are event-window codes and the next major patch typically retires them. - Pick your Sand Sifting path. Marrow Rod if you're a completionist; Dune enchantment if you already have a maxed rod you want to keep using.
- Farm Dust Storms with 2x luck, not blind casts. Ten minutes inside a storm is worth more than an hour of clear-weather sand-fishing.
- Save the Terrosunder catch for the end of the storm. Catching it ends the storm early, which forfeits the rest of the 2x window.
- Do not toss Awakening Serum unless your setup is dialed in. The 5-minute Photic Terrosunder Hunt window is unforgiving.
- Camp the Claypans on any Rain or Stormy roll. Four fish are locked behind Torrential Rain and there is no other way to complete the Drylands Bestiary.
- Re-evaluate your Wingkeeper, Crew Rod, and Igneous Rupturer. The 1.91 tuning turned all three back into meta-relevant rods.
FAQ
- When did the Drylands update release?
- Friday, July 4, 2026, at 16:00 UTC — timestamped on the Fischipedia Version 1.91 page. Five hotfix subversions (1.91.0.1–1.91.0.5) followed through July 6.
- How do I unlock Sand Sifting?
- Two paths: the Marrow Rod paired with the Sand Sifter bobber, or the new Dune enchantment slotted on any rod.
- Where do I get the Sand Sifter?
- The Sand Sifter is a bobber earned from a Drylands quest — the patch notes list it under "Bobbers — from Quest completion."
- How do I catch the Terrosunder?
- Wait for a Dust Storm (Drylands-only Localized Event). The Terrosunder Hunt activates automatically. Fish near the moving Terrosunder with a Sand Sifting-capable rod — but do not get too close, or you take instant-kill damage.
- How do I summon the Photic Terrosunder?
- During an active Dust Storm and Terrosunder Hunt, toss an Awakening Serum into the Sunken Reservoir. The regular Terrosunder charges the pool and transforms into the Photic. You have 5 minutes to catch it.
- What are the Torrential Rain exclusives?
- Four Claypans-only fish: Dryskin Minnow, Cactus-Feeder Barb, Claypan Guppy, and Sun-Blistered Perch. None spawn under any other weather condition.
- What are the active codes?
DrylandsIsFireandHappy4th. Both were introduced in Version 1.91 and are listed in the patch notes' New Content block.- Does the Drylands patch nerf any companions?
- No — the Balance Changes block only lists buffs for Beak Bill, Penguin Pal, and Silly Seal, plus rod buffs to Wingkeeper, Crew Rod, Igneous Rupturer, Fabulous Rod, and Acidgrinder. There are no companion nerfs in 1.91.
- Is the Crew Rod worth re-farming after the buff?
- The luck jump from 100% to 250% and resilience from 20% to 55% is the largest single-rod tune-up in the patch notes. If you had the Crew Rod unlocked from the June Crews update, take another look at it before this patch cycle closes.
