Nates Blade is obtainable again, and Version 2.05 doubled its signature mutations from 2x to 4x the same day. Lumpy, Rockstar and Bubblegum are the three the blade applies, and the wiki calls those mutations guaranteed.
The catch is step one. Both blade pieces sit behind older endgame unlocks: the Crimson Cavern and The Depths Maze. Haven't opened both? That's your actual first job.

Version 2.05 ("Nate's Quest") went live on October 10, 2026 at 16:00 UTC. Finishing the line also unlocks Miso as a companion. That part comes last, and it needs Cheese.
Where to start: Nate's Cave
Head to Sunstone Island, northeast of Moosewood, and climb the ladder to Upper Sunstone. The cave entrance is behind Merlin's house, at roughly -915, 207, -1025.
Miso is the cat in front of the table, next to the arcade machine. Talk to him. He walks you to Nate's computer, and the puzzle there starts the real quest.
Nate has been kidnapped, his blade is broken, and Dr. It Fish is the villain you're going after.
Step 1: the two blade pieces
Neither piece drops unless Restore Nates Blade (Part 1) is active, so don't farm early.
Crimson Centerpiece
It's a Rare Find. Fish in the Crimson Cavern until it comes up. No drop chance is listed yet, but Scavenging raises Rare Find odds, so run a Scavenger or Foraging enchant.
Getting in is the hard part. The Crimson Cavern sits under the Desolate Deep, behind a red gate in the Luminescent Cavern. To open it, hand the Crimson Guard a Crimson-mutated Colossal Blue Dragon. The wiki recommends the Scarlet Spincaster Rod for that, with its 30% Crimson chance. Bring diving gear for the underwater tunnel.
Broken Blade
It sits at the end of The Depths Maze, where the Rod Of The Depths statue is. That's two locks deep:
- The Depths gate needs the full Vertigo bestiary plus a Depths Key, handed in at The Keeper. It stays open for good once you've used it.
- The Maze door needs an Abyssal relic on the pedestal by Aspicientis and a Hexed Enchant Relic on the pedestal by Tenebris. That puzzle is client-sided, so a friend can't open it for you.
If you've already bought Rod Of The Depths, you've done this walk. If you haven't, budget real time for it. The wiki warns the maze is hard to get through even with the best diving gear.
Step 2: Relive the Trailer
Every part needs Perfect Catches. A normal catch doesn't count.
Part 1: Moosewood
The Moosewood bestiary has 17 fish. Fifteen are Mythical or lower. The awkward two are Treble Bass (Exotic) and Cataclysm Carp (Divine Secret).
The quest says "every fish available at Moosewood Docks." The wiki doesn't say yet whether those two count, so knock out the other 15 first and see if the step clears.
Part 2: Roslit Volcano
The volcano's bestiary has 13 entries. Drop Molten Banshee (Exotic) and Molten Ripple (Secret) and you're left with 11 Mythical-and-below targets:
| Rarity | Fish |
|---|---|
| Trash | Basalt, Rock |
| Uncommon | Magma Tang |
| Unusual | Ember Perch, Ember Snapper |
| Rare | Pyrogrub, Quality Bait Crate, Volcanic Geode |
| Legendary | Obsidian Salmon |
| Mythical | Inferno Wood, Obsidian Swordfish |
Roslit Volcano is lava, so you need a rod with 100+ durability or the Invincible enchant. Nates Blade has 200 durability and can fish lava pools. The wiki doesn't say exactly when the restored blade is handed over, only that Part 3 needs it, so if it's already in your hotbar, use it here.
Whether trash and the crate need a Perfect Catch too isn't documented. Do them anyway. They're the easiest entries on the list.
Part 3: 20 Colossal Squid
The Colossal Squid is a Mythical with a -70% progress speed penalty. Its listed preferences are Foggy, Night, Winter and Night Shrimp bait. You need 20 of them, all Perfect Catches, all on Nates Blade.
One thing doesn't line up. The quest names Snowcap Cave, but the squid's own wiki page lists Snowcap's surrounding ocean, Snowburrow and the Algae Hunt, not the cave. If the cave pool won't bite, try the open water around Snowcap.
Stack the preferences: night, winter, fog if you can get it. They won't make the Perfect Catch easier, but they cut the wait between bites, and you need twenty.
Step 3: A Nostalgia Trip
Here's the one that takes longest. The quest wants you to:
- Catch every original fish with Nates Blade
- Catch 5 fish with every original fishing rod
- Get every free, obtainable original title
- Own every original boat and every original lantern
- Unlock every original badge
- Enchant 21 times
- Witness every original weather and modifier
The wiki doesn't define "original" yet. Best guess is launch-era Fisch. Until someone posts the exact list, this step has no fixed length.
Enchant 21 times is the only task that doesn't depend on what "original" means, so start those now.
Step 4: Find Nate
Report back to Miso. His hint is "a familiar-looking crown atop of a lone buoy, and a familiar power emanating from beneath."
You're looking for Nate's Crown, Nate's Glasses and Nate's Lantern. Then you break a wall with Nates Blade, and Nate's behind it. The wiki hasn't pinned down which buoy yet, and Nate's Crown and Glasses have no pages.
Nate's Lantern is the one item here with a listing: the 2.05 notes add it as a quest-exclusive lantern.
The 2.05 notes also list Nate's Car, a quest boat, plus a new Dr. It Fish's Lair sub-location. One skin, Nates Ultimate Legendary Find, is listed as unlocked "under special conditions" that nobody has documented yet.
Taming Miso
After you rescue Nate, Cheese shows up in Nate's Cave. Hold it, talk to Miso and pick "Feed Miso the Cheese." He becomes a companion.
Miso's Aura is a new status effect in 2.05, but its numbers aren't on the wiki yet. Don't drop your current companion for him yet.
Nates Blade stats in 2.05
| Stat | Value |
|---|---|
| Lure Speed | 119% |
| Luck | 244% |
| Control | 0 (grows during the catch) |
| Resilience | 44% |
| Max Weight | Infinite |
| Durability | 200 |
| Line Distance | 444 |
| Rod Journal XP | 5,250 |
The passive:
- +100% fish weight
- 33% each for Lumpy, Rockstar and Bubblegum, now 4x apiece
- 45% chance per fish movement to slash for +6% progress, stunning the fish for 0.335 seconds (the wiki still flags this one for verification)
- +50% progress speed
- +0.045 control every 0.6 seconds, now in steps instead of a smooth ramp
Before 2.05, each of those mutations was worth 2x. Now each is 4x. The +100% weight bonus hasn't changed since Version 1.56.1, so the mutation buff is the entire upgrade.
The wiki's Enchanting section recommends Anomalous + Tryhard for C$ income, or Greed + Sea Prince for raw weight with mutation baits. The Stage number is still TBA. Put these stats next to your current main on our Fisch rod tier list before you sell anything.
The blade launched in the Black Market at 3,000,000,067 C$, dropped to 200,000,000 C$, and left in Version 1.59. It came back for one day in March 2026 via a code. The questline doesn't charge C$ for the blade itself.
Other 2.05 changes worth knowing
- Brine Storm now lasts 5 minutes instead of 3, with a 7-minute cooldown between spawns.
- Polaris Serenade: Serene chance 18% to 25%, Initial Progress chance 4% to 10%, and +100 durability.
- Astraeus Serenade: +100 durability.
- The 4x Bubblegum, Lumpy and Rockstar change applies to every rod that can roll them.
- Livepatch 2.05.0.1 lets the Sand Dollar be caught in the Ocean.
