WHAT IS ANIME DEFENDERS?

Anime Defenders is a tower defense game on Roblox where you place units — characters inspired by the biggest anime franchises — along a path to stop waves of enemies from reaching your base. With 2 billion visits and a consistently active playerbase, it's one of the most-played tower defense experiences on the platform.

You acquire units through a gacha summon system using Gems. Each unit has a rarity tier (Rare → Epic → Legendary → Mythic → Secret → Exclusive), an element type, and a random Trait that modifies its stats. The "right" unit isn't just about rarity — element affinity, trait quality, and team composition all matter.

Update 10 added the Elements system— a full type chart where your unit's element matches up against enemy elements for damage multipliers. It fundamentally changed how you build teams and is now central to all high-level play.

UNIT TIER LIST

Based on Update 10/11 community consensus. Elements, trait quality, and team synergy affect real performance — treat this as a starting point, not a ceiling.

SSAbsolute Best
Shadow Dragon
DPS / AoE

Best unit in the game. Exclusive rarity. Otherworldly Power ability adds 25% range and 15% cooldown reduction to all nearby allies — plays offense and support simultaneously.

Divine Tyrant
DPS / Ancient

New top-tier from Update 10. Ancient rarity. Massive burst damage with range coverage that most Legendaries can't touch. The non-Exclusive pick for top-end DPS.

SHighly Reliable
Ice Dragon Queen
Support

Top support unit. AoE ice slows combined with stat auras make surrounding units hit harder. Best support available outside of Shadow Dragon's passive.

Stage Diva
Economy / Secret

Added Update 10. Highest cash-per-wave of any farm unit in the game. Run her in one slot to fund upgrade costs without sacrificing DPS elsewhere.

Poseidon (Sea Sovereign)
Support

Second-best dedicated support. Water element synergy amplifies ice/water compositions significantly.

AStrong Picks
Flame Dragon God
DPS / Fire

Fire element powerhouse. Excels against ice-type enemies per the type chart. Great for targeted counterpicking in elemental stages.

Thunder God
DPS / Lightning

Fast attack speed with chain lightning. Particularly effective on grouped enemy waves. Mythical rarity evolved from Thunder Shinobi.

Tier list reflects Update 10/11 community consensus. Balance patches shift rankings — check the official Anime Defenders Discord for latest meta discussions.

ADDED UPDATE 10

ELEMENTS SYSTEM

Every unit and every enemy now has an element type. The type chart determines damage multipliers — a unit whose element is strongagainst an enemy's element deals increased damage. Bringing the right element into a stage is the difference between struggling and steamrolling.

Practical tip: Before starting a stage, check the enemy list. If enemies are primarily Fire-type, bring Water and Earth units. The bonus damage output noticeably speeds up clears even with lower-rarity units.
// TRAITS //
REROLL SYSTEM

TRAITS GUIDE

Traits are stat bonuses randomly assigned to a unit when you summon it. They can boost damage output, increase range, reduce cooldown, improve critical hit chance, and more. The same unit with a top-tier Trait outperforms the same unit with a poor Trait by a meaningful margin at endgame.

How Traits Work

Every unit is born with one Trait. Traits come in rarity tiers — higher rarity means bigger bonuses. You cannot choose your Trait when summoning; it's assigned randomly.

Rerolling Traits

Use Trait Crystals (earned from Raids, Challenges, and codes) to reroll a unit's Trait. Each reroll randomizes a new Trait — there is no preview before committing.

When to Reroll

Only invest Trait Crystals in SS and S tier units. Rerolling B-tier units is a waste of a limited resource. Prioritize your best DPS and support units first.

Getting Trait Crystals

Main sources: Raid completions, Challenge mode rewards, daily missions, and codes. Trait Crystals are scarce early on — hoard them until you have SS/S units.

// GAME MODES //

GAME MODES

Anime Defenders has five distinct modes. Each serves a different purpose in your progression loop.

BEGINNER FRIENDLY

Story Mode

Clear progressively harder stages. Best for learning the game, unlocking units, and earning your first Gems. Work through all chapters before jumping into harder content.

COOPERATIVE

Raids

Coop boss fights with massive HP pools. Requires coordinating unit compositions with other players. Best source of Trait Crystals — run these daily once you're mid-game.

HIGH REWARD

Challenge Mode

Harder stages with modified rules (limited unit slots, element restrictions, etc.). Significantly better rewards than Story. Complete daily challenges for bonus Gems.

ENDGAME GRIND

Infinite Mode

Endless waves that scale indefinitely. How far you get is a direct measure of your team's power. Milestone floors drop rare unit materials and high-value rewards.

PASSIVE INCOME

AFK Mode

Leave your account in AFK Mode to earn Gems passively over time. Not the fastest farming method but adds up significantly when combined with active play sessions.

// FAQ //

FAQ

Common questions about Anime Defenders — mechanics, progression, and team building.

Q.What is the best unit in Anime Defenders right now?[+]
A.Shadow Dragon is the current consensus best unit in Anime Defenders. It's an Exclusive rarity unit with full AoE coverage and the Otherworldly Power passive, which adds 25% range and 15% cooldown reduction to all nearby allies. Divine Tyrant (Ancient rarity, added in Update 10) is the best non-Exclusive DPS unit if you don't have Shadow Dragon.
Q.What is the Elements system in Anime Defenders?[+]
A.The Elements system (added in Update 10) assigns elemental types to both units and enemies. A type chart determines which elements are strong or weak against others — for example, Fire beats Ice, Water beats Fire. When your unit's element is strong against an enemy's element, you deal increased damage. Building element-diverse teams or counterpicking enemy waves significantly improves your clear speed.
Q.How do Traits work in Anime Defenders?[+]
A.Traits are bonus stat modifiers assigned to units when you summon them. They can enhance damage, range, cooldown reduction, or other stats. Traits are randomized — you can reroll them using Trait Crystals. Higher-rarity Traits provide larger bonuses. You cannot reroll traits until you reach the required account level. Focus on rerolling your best (SS/S tier) units first.
Q.How do I get more Gems in Anime Defenders?[+]
A.The main Gem sources are: beating Story stages, completing daily and weekly missions, AFK Mode passive collection, Challenge Mode stages, and redeeming codes. For consistent Gem income, prioritize completing daily missions every session — they reset at midnight and are the most reliable source for active players.
Q.What level do I need to redeem Anime Defenders codes?[+]
A.You must be at least Level 8 in Anime Defenders AND your Roblox account must be at least 90 days old to redeem codes. If codes aren't working, check both of these requirements. Once eligible, codes are redeemed through the "..." menu → Codes tab in-game.
Q.What is the best team composition for Raids?[+]
A.For Raids, prioritize: one dedicated support unit (Ice Dragon Queen or Poseidon), one economy/farm unit (Stage Diva), and fill remaining slots with your highest DPS units. Coordinate element types with teammates — avoid stacking the same element across a full team, since diverse element coverage handles more enemy types. Check the Raid's enemy element before entering and swap in counters accordingly.
