Last Verified: June 28, 2026. Patch-note text, weapon balance numbers, bundle contents, and event mechanics are taken from the in-game updates tab as transcribed by Sportskeeda (June 27, 2026), cross-checked against the official Roblox event listing for "🏖️ SUMMER UPDATE 🌴 — [🎂] RIVALS." The Riot Shield 500 HP change, Burst Rifle reload increase, and Shotgun damage bump are the meta-relevant lines and are quoted directly. 2nd-Birthday rewards beyond Brimstone are unconfirmed pending the dev follow-up flagged for June 28.

RIVALS turned two on June 28, 2026 — the game first launched on June 28, 2024 — and the dev team marked it with the FPS's first-ever Summer Update, pushed live a day early on Friday, June 27. It's a content-and-systems patch in equal measure: a Pearls currency event with its own boost rule, a brand-new Summer Skin Case with one skin per weapon, the loot-heavy Tropical Chest, a permanent Davy Jones Pirate Bundle, the promotion of the long-running Sandbox prototype into an official map, a real Riot Shield nerf (Max HP from Infinity to 500), and an ad-watching free-rewards path that fundamentally changes how new players sample paid weapons. If you logged in this weekend and bounced off the event tab without realising how much actually shipped, this is the full breakdown.

TL;DR — What Shipped in the Summer Update

  • Released: Friday, June 27, 2026 (in-game updates tab). The 2nd-Birthday celebration is timed for June 28, 2026 — the exact anniversary of release day.
  • Summer Event: A new event currency called Pearls, earned from Event-page tasks and spent in the Shop. A 5× Pearls boost applies until you collect 250 Pearls, then resets daily — the same loop shape as the Halloween Candy event, but at a higher boost ceiling.
  • Three new shop lines: the Summer Skin Case (a fresh skin for every weapon in the game), the Tropical Chest (dozens of charms, wraps, finishers, plus an emote), and the permanent Pirate Bundle (9 exclusive cosmetics, with the Cutlass Katana skin as the highlight).
  • Maps: Sandbox graduates from prototype to official map with full contract support; Diorama sticks around.
  • Balance: Burst Rifle reload nerfed 1.2s → 1.6s; Shotgun damage up 7.5×10 → 8×10 and crit up 11.25×10 → 12×10; Riot Shield Max Health Infinity → 500; Sniper hitbox +17%; Minigun now penalised for movement.
  • Free rewards path: Watch an ad in the lobby for the new Brimstone wrap and free Keys; watch ads from the Weapons page for a free single-duel trial of any locked standard weapon. This is the first time RIVALS has let non-payers temporarily field paid weapons.
  • 80+ new cosmetics in total across the case, chest, bundle, and event drops — including the Riptide Katana, Palm Scythe, Kraken Sniper, Cannon Shorty, Shark Shotgun, Pearl Exogun, Surfboard, Giant Popsicle, Lifeguard Grappler, Lemonade Gun, Water Blaster, and the 2nd Birthday Cake.

Pearls Event & the 5× Boost Rule

The Pearls loop is the load-bearing daily-engagement piece of the update, and it's worth reading the boost rule carefully before you start farming.

  • How you earn Pearls: complete the new tasks on the Event page. The exact tasks rotate, but the per-task Pearl payout is where the 5× modifier applies.
  • How the boost works: "FREE x5 Pearl boost until you earn 250 Pearls. This boost comes back EVERY DAY." Translation — your first 250 Pearls each day are paid out at 5× the base rate; everything after that drops to base rate until the next daily reset.
  • Practical implication: if you only have time for one event push per day, make it the first 250 Pearls. Skipping a day doesn't bank the boost — it resets every 24 hours, so missed days are pure event-currency loss.
  • Where Pearls are spent: the Shop's event section — charms, wraps, finishers, emotes, and skins are listed at Pearl prices for the event window only.

If you played the Halloween Update 6 Candy event, the structure is familiar but the boost is meaningfully more generous: Candy capped at 2× until 100 collected; Pearls run 5× until 250. The dev team is paying more for the same daily-engagement signal this time around.

Summer Skin Case — One Skin, Every Weapon

The Summer Skin Case is the headline cosmetic line: "a brand new skin for EVERY WEAPON in the game." Named summer skins that have surfaced in patch notes and the in-game preview include:

  • Riptide Katana — a wave-themed Katana skin.
  • Palm Scythe — Scythe.
  • Kraken Sniper — Sniper.
  • Cannon Shorty — Shorty.
  • Shark Shotgun — Shotgun.
  • Pearl Exogun — Exogun.
  • Surfboard, Giant Popsicle, Lifeguard Grappler, Lemonade Gun, Water Blaster — paired to additional weapons (full mapping is visible in the case preview UI).
  • Heatwave, Synthwave, Sea Glass, Whirlpool, Surfing, Shiny Pearl, Pearlescent, Clammed — the wrap and charm rotation that ships alongside the case.

Two practical notes: the case is limited-time, so any skin you don't unlock during the event window goes back into the vault when summer ends; and like every Skin Case, you can gift it (the Halloween-era cap of 3 gifts per send is the prior baseline — the dev team didn't change that in the Summer notes, so assume it carries forward).

Tropical Chest — Charms, Wraps, Finishers, Emote

The Tropical Chest is the secondary lootbox running alongside the Summer Skin Case. Its contents are "dozens of new charms, wraps, finishers, & even an emote." Unlike the Summer Skin Case (one skin per weapon), the Tropical Chest is the breadth pool — it's where the long tail of summer-themed visual cosmetics lives, and it's where any new emote of the patch is sitting.

For F2P players grinding Pearls, the Tropical Chest is the better dollar-for-dollar value path because emotes, finishers, and charms tend to be universally equippable across the entire weapon roster, whereas a Summer Skin Case skin only applies to one weapon. If you're a Burst Rifle main, opening Cases is fine — if you swap weapons frequently, the Chest gets more equip-time per item.

Pirate Bundle — 9 Cosmetics for Davy Jones Loyalists

Sold under the in-fiction line "Davy Jones has a special bundle being sold just for you" and listed in the Skins section of the Shop. The Pirate Bundle is permanent, not limited-time — separate it mentally from the Summer Event lines. Bundle contents:

  • Kraken Sniper
  • Cannon Shorty
  • Pirate Hook
  • Ship In A Bottle
  • Cutlass (Katana skin — the headline pickup)
  • Long Lost Treasure
  • Dutchman
  • Spectralized
  • X Marks The Spot

The bundle is sold at a discount versus buying its items individually and ships with bonus items on top of the 9 listed cosmetics. If you only want one piece, wait for it in a Daily Shop rotation; if you want three or more, the bundle is the cheaper path. Kraken Sniper and Cannon Shorty also appear in the Summer Skin Case preview, which means there's at least partial overlap between Case rolls and Bundle contents — buying the Bundle locks them in deterministically rather than fishing them out of a lootbox.

Free Rewards: Brimstone Wrap & Standard-Weapon Trials

This is the quiet sleeper of the patch and arguably the most monetisation-significant change RIVALS has made in a year:

  • Watch an ad on a lobby TV → free Keys + the new Brimstone wrap.
  • Watch an ad on the Weapons page → free TRIAL of any locked purchaseable Standard weapon for your next duel.
  • Watch an ad before joining RIVALS → free TRIAL of all locked purchaseable Standard weapons.

Two important caveats from the patch notes: the offers are gated as "only available to eligible players" (region/device eligibility for video ads), and these are trials — they don't unlock the weapons permanently. But the funnel implication is real. Before this patch, the only way to try a Standard weapon was to buy it (or watch a YouTuber play it). Now a free player can play one duel with the Bow, decide it's their style, and then buy. Expect Standard-weapon conversion rates to move on this alone.

New Mixedify Charm joins the eliminate-a-named-player charm list, alongside the existing TanqR / BobbVX / oPixel / Chex / Hoopie / hoppy819 / MiniBloxia / Mud / KaiM set. Eliminate @mixedify in a public duel to claim it.

Sandbox Promoted, Diorama Stays

Sandbox has been a long-running unofficial / playtest map. With the Summer Update, it's been "revamped and turned into an official map," and crucially it now has official contract support — meaning weapon contracts, daily tasks, and event progress all count when you're playing on Sandbox. Diorama remains in rotation.

Map-pool depth matters for map-vote diversity. Adding an officially-contracted map shifts the vote-screen meta because contract-grinding players will now actually vote Sandbox instead of skipping past it.

Every Balance Change That Matters

Quoted directly from the in-game patch notes. Numbers verified against Sportskeeda's transcription.

Nerfs

  • Burst Rifle — Reload time 1.2s → 1.6s. Damage dropoff start range 75 → 60 studs. The Burst was sitting comfortably in S-tier across most ranked formats; longer reload plus shorter effective range is a deliberate haircut.
  • Minigun — Moving while shooting now reduces accuracy. Big positional change — Minigun mains who pre-fire while strafing are going to feel this immediately.
  • Paintball Gun — Projectile speed +~22%, projectile hitbox size -25%. Net effect: harder to land, less random splatter — a precision-up trade.
  • Exogun — Shoot spread 0.5° → 0.628°. Marginal accuracy nerf.
  • Maul — Minimum slam altitude 10 → 8 studs. Easier to use, ironically — calling this a nerf only because it changes timing for mains who learned the 10-stud threshold.
  • Riot Shield — Max Health Infinity → 500. See dedicated section below.

Buffs

  • Shotgun — Damage 7.5×10 → 8×10. Critical damage 11.25×10 → 12×10. A real damage bump, not a spread tweak. Shotgun close-range fights are now even more uncontested.
  • Sniper — Hitbox size +17%. Body shots and grazing hits register more reliably.
  • Daggers — Equip cooldown 0.8s → 0.6s.
  • Shorty — Equip cooldown 0.7s → 0.6s.
  • Uzi — Shoot spread 2° → 1°. Halving the spread is one of the larger Uzi buffs in the game's history.
  • Grenade Launcher — Explosion Radius 12 → 14 studs.
  • Freeze Ray — Freeze damage reduction now lasts 1 second after thawing; frozen enemies are also slowed by 50% for 1 second after thawing. Real post-thaw pressure rather than a clean reset.
  • Permafrost — Freeze damage reduction now lasts 1 second after thawing (mirrors the Freeze Ray treatment).
  • Distortion — Vortexes now pull enemies directly into the center, making the AoE follow-up far more reliable.

The Riot Shield Nerf — 500 HP Cap

The single biggest balance line of the patch hides in the middle of the list: Riot Shield Max Health decreased from Infinity to 500.

Before this patch, the Shield was functionally unbreakable — it absorbed indefinite damage as long as you were holding it. That made it the de-facto choke-point answer in 5v5 and larger duels, where a single Shield could anchor a corridor for an entire round. A 500-HP cap means coordinated focus-fire will now actually break it. The patch also added a quality-of-life buff: "You can now see the damage you deal to Riot Shields," so you finally know how close you are to popping one.

If you were running Shield as your default Utility, plan for fewer free anchors and more rotation between cover. If you were on the receiving end, three teammates focusing the same Shield can now break it in under three seconds — coordinate over comms and the meta you'll see this week shifts noticeably.

Gameplay & Matchmaking Changes

  • Matchmaking stability + speed improvements; the 12-second matchmade duel countdown is now skipped entirely if 100% of players have connected.
  • Projectile weapons now use a new Raycast Projectile system. Quick Attacks are now client-sided.
  • Ranked: placement matches should now land you in a more reasonable ELO; enemy ranks are hidden until the duel ends.
  • Arcade Servers: Balanced Ammo Drops; Health Drops clear burn effects; additional XP-gain restrictions; task progress temporarily disabled in Arcade.
  • Secret simulation rewards: defeat Nosniy Bot and Sensei Bot to claim "The Head of Nosniy Bot" and "The Head of Sensei Bot" as cosmetic rewards. These are easter-egg charms — likely worth chasing on principle alone.
  • Settings: Hotbar UI repositionable, weapon ammo visibility toggles per-context, separate volumes for Other Finishers and Other Emotes, Damage Numbers Color + Critical Color customisation.

Launch-Week Priority List

  1. Cash in the 5× Pearls boost daily. First 250 Pearls per day are paid at 5× — log in, push the Event page, get them, log out if that's all you have time for. Skipped days are gone forever.
  2. Spend Pearls in the Tropical Chest before the Summer Skin Case if you swap weapons often. Charms / emotes / wraps from the Chest equip across the whole roster; Case skins are weapon-specific.
  3. Only buy the Pirate Bundle if you want 3+ of its 9 items. The Cutlass Katana skin is the headline. Otherwise wait for individual rolls in the Daily Shop.
  4. Trial Standard weapons via the ad path before buying. First time the game has let you do this — use it before deciding whether to spend Robux on Bow / Crossbow / Distortion / etc.
  5. Re-evaluate your Riot Shield loadouts. The 500-HP cap meaningfully changes 5v5 chokepoint play. If Shield was your default, swap-test a few rounds before deciding.
  6. Burst Rifle mains: rethink loadout for ranked. 1.6s reload + 60-stud dropoff range pushes the gun out of its prior top-tier slot. Shotgun is the immediate beneficiary of that vacancy.

FAQ

When did the RIVALS Summer Update release?
Friday, June 27, 2026 in the in-game updates tab. The 2nd-Birthday celebration is timed for June 28, 2026 — the exact two-year anniversary of RIVALS's June 28, 2024 launch.
Is the Pirate Bundle limited-time?
No. The Pirate Bundle is sold in the Skins section of the Shop and is not flagged limited-time in the patch notes, unlike the Summer Event content. The Summer Skin Case and Tropical Chest are time-gated to the event window.
How does the 5× Pearls boost work?
The first 250 Pearls you collect each day are paid out at 5× the base rate. The boost resets every 24 hours — it does not bank, so missing a day permanently costs you that day's boosted Pearls.
What changed for the Riot Shield?
Max Health was reduced from Infinity to 500. The Shield is no longer indestructible — coordinated focus-fire will break it. The patch also added a UI improvement showing the damage you deal to Riot Shields so you can track break progress.
Are the free-trial weapons permanent unlocks?
No. Watching an ad on the Weapons page grants a free trial of a locked Standard weapon for your next duel only. Watching an ad before joining the game grants the trial for all locked Standard weapons. To keep them permanently, you still need to purchase them.
What's the Brimstone wrap?
A new wrap added in the Summer Update, unlockable for free by watching an ad on one of the lobby TVs. Eligibility for video ads is region- and device-dependent.
Is Sandbox a new map?
Sandbox has been around as an unofficial map; the Summer Update revamped it and promoted it to an official map with full contract support. Diorama also remains in rotation.
Did this patch add new gamemodes?
No new permanent gamemodes shipped with the Summer Update. The focus is the Pearls event, the cosmetic content drop, balance changes, and the free-ad rewards path.
