Murder Mystery 2 perks are role-specific upgrades for the Murderer, Sheriff, and Innocent roles. The Murderer can equip abilities that affect stealth, speed, and kill mechanics, while the Sheriff and Innocent have their own perk trees. Perks are unlocked through the prestige system using in-game currencies earned across matches.
MM2 Perks & Roles Guide
Complete breakdown of all 10 Murderer perks, role mechanics, prestige system, and currencies
Roles
Innocent
Survive until the timer runs out or the Murderer is killed
None (can pick up the dropped Sheriff gun)
Survive until the timer expires OR the Murderer is eliminated
- • Collect coins during rounds (up to 40 per round, 50 with the Elite gamepass)
- • Pick up the gun if the Sheriff dies — shooting the Murderer with it makes you the Hero
- • Vote on the next map between rounds
- Stay near groups but keep spacing — a knife throw can catch clustered players
- Learn map layouts and escape routes
- If the Sheriff dies, try to grab the dropped gun
- Shooting the Murderer after grabbing the gun wins the round as the Hero
Sheriff
Identify and eliminate the Murderer
Gun
Eliminate the Murderer
- • One shot eliminates the Murderer
- • Gun drops on death for Innocents to pick up
- • The gun must reload after every shot
- Use flick aiming — snap to the target at the moment of firing
- Favor open areas with long sightlines; larger maps like MilBase, Bio Lab, and Factory play easier for the Sheriff
- Don't reveal you have the gun early — the Murderer will target you first
- If cornered, dying in an open area at least leaves the gun where an Innocent can grab it
- NEVER shoot an Innocent — if you do, both you and the Innocent die
Murderer
Eliminate all players before the timer expires
Knife (melee + throwable)
Eliminate all Innocents and the Sheriff before the timer runs out
- • Melee attack (instant kill, short range)
- • Throw knife (instant kill, travels in a straight line)
- • Equip one Power (perk) per round for a special ability
- Target the Sheriff first if identified
- Jump while throwing to alter trajectory and stay harder to hit
- Haste keeps you faster than fleeing Innocents in public lobbies
- Sleight speeds up knife throws and regeneration for 1v1 duels
- Watch the dropped gun after killing the Sheriff — an Innocent who grabs it becomes the Hero
Murderer Perks
Perks are abilities exclusive to the Murderer role. Equip one perk before each round to gain a strategic advantage.
Haste
Lets the Murderer outrun Innocents in a straight chase. Originally a 30% boost; nerfed to 10% around the May 2020 update, but still a go-to pick for aggressive play.
Sleight
Reduces the window of vulnerability after a missed throw — a favorite for knife-throw duels and 1v1 servers.
X-Ray
Counters hiding strategies on large maps like Research Facility — the priciest power tier alongside Ghost.
Footsteps
The default power every Murderer starts with. Useful for tracking campers hiding in obscure map spots; buffed in the March 2020 update and again during the Christmas 2025 event.
Ninja
Removes the audio cue that alerts nearby players and the Sheriff to a kill.
Ghost
Used for ambushes at high-traffic choke points. The invisibility lasted 10 seconds before Season 1 nerfed it to 5.
Sprint
Burst mobility added in the May 2020 update — closes gaps on isolated targets, and a visible trail follows you while it is active.
Decoy
Added during the Thanksgiving 2025 event. A decoy vanishes if shot — but players can't collide with clones, which is the tell that gives them away.
Fake Gun
Psychological warfare — pose as the Sheriff to make targets hesitate. Buffed during the Christmas 2025 event.
Trap
Area denial with a 0.5-second cooldown between placements. Added in the May 2020 update alongside Sprint.

EventMM2 Perks & Roles Guide
This guide covers every Murderer perk in Murder Mystery 2, organized by competitive tier. The Meta perks (Haste, Sleight, X-Ray) are considered essential for serious gameplay, while Situational and Niche perks offer specialized advantages in specific scenarios.
Understanding role mechanics is crucial for winning in MM2. The Innocent must survive and identify the Murderer, the Sheriff must eliminate the Murderer with their gun, and the Murderer must eliminate all other players before time runs out. Prestige (unlocked at level 100, up to Prestige X) is purely cosmetic.
