Fish It! Roblox Beginner's Guide: Islands, Rods & How to Catch Your First Legendary

✅ Last Verified: April 23, 2026. Mechanics confirmed across the official Fish It! Fandom wiki, fishit-wiki.com, and multiple independent guides. Active code EASTER2026 verified by PCGamer and GamesRadar as of April 21, 2026. Rod prices and island unlock requirements sourced from fishit-wiki.com and community guides.

Fish It! by Fish Atelier hit 356,000+ peak concurrent players without a big launch announcement or collab — just a fishing loop that's genuinely satisfying and a progression system deep enough to keep players grinding for months. If you just loaded in and have no idea where to start, this guide covers everything: island progression, the full rod upgrade path, fish rarity tiers, the bobber mechanic most players ignore, and active codes.

The Luck Meter — Master This First

Every cast triggers a moving bar with zones: Miss → Good → Amazing → Perfect → Amazing → Good → Miss. Where you stop the marker sets your rarity modifier for that cast.

  • Perfect — best possible rarity odds at that spot
  • Amazing — nearly as strong, minimal drop-off from Perfect
  • Good — moderate boost over baseline
  • Miss — no bonus, baseline odds only

Consistent Perfect and Amazing stops are the single biggest driver of your rarity progression — more impactful than your rod tier in the early game. Don't auto-click. Build the habit of watching the meter every cast.

Fish Rarity Tiers

Fish It! uses 7 rarity tiers. Fish at higher tiers are worth significantly more coins and are required for late-game quest progression. The game has 415+ base fish species and over 1 million variations through mutation systems.

TierNotes
CommonStarter island staple, low value
UncommonStill frequent on early islands
RareCoral Reef and beyond
EpicMid-game milestone
LegendaryFirst major goal for most players
MythicDeep islands required
SecretLowest catch rates in the game — some as rare as 1 in 4,000,000

Mutations (Shiny, Crystalized, Frozen) can apply to fish of any rarity tier and add value multipliers. Don't sell mutated fish until you know their actual worth.

Island Progression Order

Fish It! has 8+ islands. Each gates better fish behind level and coin requirements. Progress through them in this order.

1. Stingray Shores (Starter Island)

Where everyone begins. An NPC hands you your first rod and a two-fish quest. Fish here are Common and Uncommon. Your goal isn't rare catches yet — it's upgrading your first rod and buying a better bobber. Sell everything. Coins reinvested in gear now compound faster than sitting on inventory.

2. Kohana Island

The next stop after your first rod upgrade. Kohana introduces Rare fish and NPC quests that give XP gating further island access. Prioritize quests every session — XP is the progression gate, not just coins.

3. Coral Reef Island

Requires a boat and meaningful coin investment. You'll see your first real Rare, Epic, and occasional Legendary catches here. This is where fishing starts to feel genuinely rewarding.

4. Tropical Grove

Home to the Thresher Shark (Mythic) and Great Whale (Secret). Neither is easy, but they become realistic targets with a solid mid-tier rod. Most serious mid-game grinders spend the bulk of their time here.

5. Ancient Jungle Island

A more recent update addition, accessible by boat after sufficient progression. Fish pool leans Epic and Legendary. New boat options were also added to the battlepass alongside this island.

6. Crystal Cavern

The Halloween 2025 event island that became permanent. Requires Level 30 and 10,000 Candy Corn to access. One of the best fish pools in the game once you qualify.

7. Esoteric Depths

Entry costs 400 coins via elevator, but Esoteric Depths unlocks the Rod Enchanting system — the deepest mechanical layer in the game. Fish lean Epic, Legendary, and Secret. Enchantments add permanent stat modifiers to your rod.

8. Lost Isle

Endgame. The Robot Kraken (1 in 3,500,000 catch chance) lives here, along with the King Crab and Monster Shark (both 1 in 2,500,000). This is your long-term goal, not a current destination.

Rod Upgrade Path

RodCostNotes
Starter RodFreeReplace immediately
Luck Rod350 coinsFirst upgrade
Carbon Rod900 coinsSolid entry-level
Lava RodQuest rewardComplete the Kohana NPC chain — it's free
Lucky Rod15,000 coinsMid-game upgrade
Diamond Rod25,000 coinsBest luck-to-cost ratio in the game — buy this before anything else in the tier
Midnight Rod50,000 coinsSkip if pushing straight to Steampunk — inefficient jump
Steampunk Rod215,000 coinsLate mid-game
Chrome Rod437,000 coinsLate-game
Astral Rod1,000,000 coinsEndgame rod
Ghostfinn / ElementQuest / High LevelEndgame progression

The Diamond Rod is the most important single upgrade in the mid-game. Its luck modifier relative to cost beats every rod between Lucky and Steampunk. Save for it before spending Gold on anything else in that range.

Bobbers & Bait: Upgrade These Before Your Rod

Most new players focus entirely on rods and skip bobbers. That's backwards. Bobbers directly affect fish rarity probability on every cast — before the luck meter even factors in. The rule: upgrade your bobber first, then your rod.

The Aether Bait (240% Luck modifier) is the best-value bait option in the early-to-mid game. At its price point, nothing else is close.

Active Codes (April 2026)

Codes give Luck Potions and wheel spins. You must be Level 10 or higher to redeem. Open the in-game menu, go to the Codes tab, and enter exactly as shown — codes are case-sensitive.

8 Habits That Actually Help

  1. Complete NPC quests every session — quest XP is the progression gate, not just coins.
  2. Sell fish regularly — holding inventory does nothing. Coins reinvested in gear compound fast.
  3. Upgrade your bobber before your rod — bobbers affect every single cast.
  4. Aim for Perfect or Amazing on every luck meter — this matters more than your gear in the early game.
  5. Save for the Diamond Rod first — the biggest efficiency jump in mid-game at 25,000 coins.
  6. Farm Candy Corn passively — Crystal Cavern is one of the best spots in the game; the 10,000 Candy Corn entry cost accumulates through seasonal drops.
  7. Use Luck Potions before grinding high-rarity islands — pop the potion, head to your best island, fish until the timer ends.
  8. Learn the Esoteric Depths enchanting system early — understanding it ahead of time helps you plan your endgame build.

FAQ

How do I unlock new islands in Fish It!?

Most islands require a combination of XP level and coins. XP comes from completing NPC quests and catching fish — prioritize quests each session since they multiply your XP income. Coins come from selling your catch consistently. Boats are required for several mid-game islands.

What is the best rod for beginners in Fish It!?

Work toward the Diamond Rod (25,000 coins) as your mid-game milestone. It has the best luck-to-cost ratio of any rod in the game. Before that, pick up the Luck Rod (350 coins) and Carbon Rod (900 coins) as stepping stones, and grab the free Lava Rod from the Kohana NPC quest chain.

Should I upgrade my rod or bobber first?

Bobber first — always. Bobbers improve your baseline rarity on every cast before the luck meter factors in. The Aether Bait (240% Luck) is the best-value option in the early-to-mid game. When both upgrades are available, prioritize the bobber unless you're making a major rod jump like the Diamond Rod.

What do mutations do to fish?

Mutations (Shiny, Crystalized, Frozen) can apply to any fish regardless of rarity tier and add value multipliers. A mutated Rare fish can be worth significantly more than a plain Legendary. Don't sell mutated catches until you understand their actual market value.

How rare is a Secret fish?

The rarest Secret fish — the Robot Kraken at Lost Isle — has a 1 in 3,500,000 catch chance. Even with max gear and Luck Potions running, these take serious grind time. Aim for Legendary as your first major milestone; Secret fish are endgame goals.

Is Fish It! pay-to-win?

Not meaningfully. Premium wheel spins and some cosmetics cost Robux, but the full progression path — rods, bobbers, island access — is achievable through regular play. A free player who hits Perfect consistently on the luck meter will outfish a Robux spender who auto-clicks.

What are active Fish It! codes for April 2026?

The active code as of April 21, 2026 is EASTER2026 — gives 2x Luck II Potion and 1x Carrot I Potion. Requires Level 10+. Check our Fish It! Game Hub for the most current list.

What is Esoteric Depths and when should I go there?

Esoteric Depths costs 400 coins to enter via elevator and unlocks the Rod Enchanting system — permanent modifiers you can add to rods to improve luck, reel speed, and rarity odds. Visit once you have a Diamond Rod or better and want to start optimizing your build for endgame islands.
